Dancing Under The Canopy
Thursday, July 13th, 2006

Phyllis and I arrived about 6:50, and there were a few there already.

... in fact the orchestra was warming up ...

... I just know Sherril's going to like this one ...

Jennifer (Pam's daughter), Pam, and Phyllis.

... well the orchestra started and the less shy ones got up right away ...

everybody loves to dance

This is The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra,
but also inserted was the band "Papa Mambo" for this Latin flavoured evening.

... the crowd was growing ...

... a look at the docks ...

The Orchestra finished their first set, and Patricia welcomed everyone,
to the first evening of "Dancing Under The Canopy" for 2006.
She also let the crowd know that some lessons and demos,
were going to take place during the intermission.

Chris and Deborah, got the crowd up for a Merengue Lesson.

Phyllis was surprised by her two sisters and brother-in-law showing up.
Sister Cheryl (pink jacket) and husband Grant (blue shirt), plus
sister Gerry (in black) and her friend Donna (in the blue top).

Special Thanks
to everyone who came and talked to Phyllis
about her broken foot.
She should be able to walk without the boot
in a few more weeks.

We decided to go eat dinner with Cheryl and Grant at the
Old Spaghetti Factory, but I took a shot from the stairs first.

I snuck out during dinner to take these pics of

I was back inside the restaurant when this deluge struck ....
It has rained the first night of "Dancing Under The Canopy"
for the last six (6) years in a row.

... the view from our table ...

... and then out the front doors of the Johnson Terminal ...

... It stopped as quick as it started, but left the dance floor very wet ...

... but the music man played a "Shania Twain" East Coast Swing,
and people began to dance ...

... shortly after the floor had been squeegeed (sp?) ...
and the orchestra began again.

... some more country friends had showed up ...

... well this year, the evening only goes from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. ...
... and it felt odd, leaving so early ...
and
except for the torrential down pour, it was a very nice evening.
